artist’s statement

“dendron ii is a continuation of my explorations of anatomy as abstraction and the relationship between internal and external. each piece begins with careful study of the tissues before they are brought to life in vivid color. at a macroscopic scale, delicate neural and cardiovascular structures mimic the irregularity of roots and branches, drawing a parallel between the body and the world around us.”

kate (she/her) is an artist and elementary educator from virginia. she is known around school for her vast collection of colorful earrings. her personal work explores the intricacies of the human body and personal experiences with chronic pain. when she is not teaching or creating, she can be found exploring the local library, watching sci-fi films, or losing at video games (but enjoying it anyway).
