train years

these trains take years to go by

i get tired of standing here

watching the heat

shimmering and lifting

on the river days

like these can pull your heart

still beating from your chest

days like these the river is too high

i see men wander bareshirted

how can they live

faster than trains move

in the liminal space between

oppressive humidity and downpour

there’s petrichor sweet fast

like a secret fucking like the couple

making love between the eastbound

and westbound tracks
